Morning Seat Work: Mathematics Review/Board Work, Daily Oral Language, Daily Phonics, and Mathematics Corrections from the Previous Day Morning Meeting: Lunch Counts, Daily Calendar, Pledge of Allegiance, Weather Conditions and Morning

 

Circle of Power and Respect:   During this time we practice greeting each other and playing respect activities. This is to help the children learn to expand their friendships and to acquaint themselves with people other than their "best friends". We conclude with prayer and petition and discuss general business of the day.

Reading and Language Arts:   McMillan-McGraw Hill  Book 2.2/Unit 1:2- The type of literature being read in this unit is: Fantasy, Informational, Folktale, Realistic Fiction, Magazine Articles, Writing Activities: Manuscript- "Handwriting Without Tears", Daily Journal Writing, Spelling, Phonics, and Grammar Work Skills: Phonological Awareness: Short and Long Vowel Sounds, Blends, Making Predictions, Statements and Questions, Story Elements. Reference Materials, Inflectional Endings, Context Clues, Generalizations, Library Skills, Cause and Effect, Fantasy and Reality, and Independent Reading (Accelerated Reading)

 

Writing: Writing Pathways- Narrative Writing- Writing personal stories from our Special Moment booklets where Tiny Topics are written down.  Scientific Writing- Writing details and processes to complete a task or study. Writing Like Scientists-Children will be asked to study the world, write a hypothesis, conduct experiments  and write about the results in a lab report. Research Writing- Children will use the iPads to research an animal of their choice, complete a questionnaire about the animal, and write a four page report.
